Trinket Materials

Farming Missions

Trinket materials like feathers can be a pain to collect from Missions. Save yourself time by knowing which Missions to farm and where to pause and check whether you'll be getting the ingredient you need. In many cases you can save about 80-90% of the play by not going all the way through a stage. Also, you save tons of energy when you Give Up on stages where you won't get any materials.

The real key is the pause trick: play a stage and then pause the play. If you have played far enough, then either you won't see the material you need, or it will show you the material you need, in which case you're getting it. If you pause too soon, then the material might not show up, even though you'd be getting it. If you pause too late, then whenever you're not getting the material, you just wasted your time. In all of these, smash or kill everything in sight, that seems to help. Crossbows or staffs are great weapons for general destruction.

With some Missions you don't get the material very often at all. I call a chance of about 10-20% "low", and a chance of around 40-50% "moderate". There are a few stages that are so terrible that I cant even recommend playing them. Almost all the top stages have very high probability of giving you a material (the third listed when you click on a crafting material). They're the ones you should use when you have Rush tickets and energy to burn. For the rest, follow these tips, or figure out the best stages on your own.

In many of these missions it helps to have a fairly weak ally and do most or all of the killing and destroying yourself, because the materials are granted for destroying a certain pot or killing a certain enemy (often, but not always: in every mission there seem to be alternate paths to earning materials).

Phoenix Feather
Mission 25 Normal (extremely low success, 8 energy/play)
Too low a success rate to really be worth it.
Mission 40 Normal (low-moderate success, 15 energy/play)
Play until you exit large first room, then pause and check that you'll be getting red feather, if not then give up and try again.
Cockatrice Feather
Mission 26 Normal (extremely low success, 8 energy/play)
Too low a success rate to really be worth it.
Mission 38 Normal (low success, 15 energy/play)
Play past first bridge, then keep left until you reach a chest (opening it isn't required, but why not?), pause and check that you'll be getting green feather, if not then give up and try again.
Harpy Feather
Mission 22 Normal (very low success, 7 energy/play)
Play until you enter the first part of the room with the portal, then pause and check that you'll be getting purple feather, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 38 Hard (moderate success, 18 energy/play)
Play past first bridge, then keep to the left until you reach a chest. Open the chest and kill the minions that appear, then pause and check that you'll be getting purple feather, if not then give up and try again.
Vapidus Feather
Mission 27 Normal (low success, 9 energy/play)
Play until top of staircase past secret door, then pause and check that you'll be getting yellow feather, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 39 Hard (low-moderate success, 18 energy/play)
Play until you open chest towards end of mission, just before fight with Syrann (boss). Pause and check that you'll be getting yellow feather, if not then give up and try again. The checkpoint for the feather is so late in this mission that playing Mission 27 Normal or Mission 26 Expert always makes more sense.
Mission 26 Expert (high success, 29 energy/play)
Play until you have cleared the enemy that creates duplicates of itself, then proceed to the right and open the chest. Pause and check that you'll be getting yellow feather, if not then give up and try again. It may help if you kill all the Meros on the staircase yourself. Usually you get the feather by the top of the staircase, but occasionally it doesn't appear until after the chest is opened.
Mazarine Ibis Feather
Mission 24 Normal (low success, 8 energy/play)
Play until you reach the chest just past the barricade that leads to the first cursed assassin, then pause and check that you'll be getting blue feather, if not then give up and try again.
Molten Spawn
Mission 1 Expert (very low success, 12 energy/play)
Play until you top of the very long staircase near the start of the mission, then pause and check that you'll be getting red heart, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 42 Hard (low-moderate success, 19 energy/play)
Play until you defeat the Crystal Leviathan (just after first encountering the Boon sister), then pause and check that you'll be getting red heart, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 37 Expert (high success, 28 energy/play)
Play until you come to the chest that's hidden behind two townsfolk, just left of bottom of stairs. Open chest, then pause and check that you'll be getting red heart, if not then give up and try again.
Wickerpod
Mission 25 Hard (low success, 11 energy/play)
Play until right angle corner in first hallway, then pause and check that you'll be getting green heart, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 43 Normal (high success, 17 energy/play)
Play through first room, destroying everything you can (a weak ally helps here). Do not go up the stairs at all. Exit to the right, then pause and check that you'll be getting green heart, if not then give up and try again. After you know you have the heart, you can rush through most of the mission, running past all the minions. You do have to fight a Harbinger and its minions, and the Mezzogian (boss) and its minions at the very end, but it's safe to ignore all of the rest. The Harbinger goes fastest if you wait to attack until right after it rears its head up.
Tormentor Heart
Mission 43 Hard (moderate success, 20 energy/play)
Play through first room, destroying everything you can (a weak ally helps here). Do not go up the stairs at all. Exit to the right, then pause and check that you'll be getting purple heart, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 30 Expert (high success, 29 energy/play)
Play until top of staircase, then pause and check that you'll be getting purple heart, if not then give up and try again. Ten Strikes is common pull.
Eternal Spring Water
Mission 26 Hard (low-moderate success, 11 energy/play)
Play until the top of the staircase. Pause and check that you'll be getting blue heart, if not then give up and try again. It may help if you kill all the Meros on the staircase yourself.
Mission 41 Hard (moderate success, 19 energy/play)
Play until defeating cluster of enemies at doorway at end of hallway after second portal, then pause and check that you'll be getting blue heart, if not then give up and try again.
Waerdian Core
Mission 30 Hard (low success, 12 energy/play)
Play until battle and chest after talking to Madie, then pause and check that you'll be getting yellow heart, if not then give up and try again.
Mission 8 Expert (moderate success, 19 energy/play)
Kill the two clusters of enemies in main room, then proceed back through sliding wall, up stairs past buzzsaw, to chest (the sliding wall is to the left, not the closed gate, but where it shows a hallway on the map). Open the chest, destroy everything in the room, and then pause and check that you'll be getting yellow heart, if not then give up and try again. You can't rush through the following trials, which makes this a slower farming mission, but it's possible to complete the trials reasonably quickly, with practice. Haste helps here.
